Technically Speaking

Bellevue DECA is an academic and extracurricular activity, focused on providing students at Bellevue College with real world business skills.  The team participates in both leadership activities and intercollegiate competition throughout the country.  These competitive activities include a wide spectrum of career choices: marketing, business, finance, communications, technology, entrepreneurship, and hospitality services.

Collegiate DECA is an international organization providing students with opportunities to test their skills in real life business scenarios, make social connections with peers, and network with business professionals.

DECA’s mission is to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Its guiding principles include academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible and experienced leaders.

Building a program like Bellevue DECA also allows students and the school itself to establish partnerships with the larger community.  Whether that be a service activity that gives back to those in and around Bellevue or an ongoing career development partnership with local employers, the organization is working on ways to foster leaders that can develop new paths forward.

In The Beginning - 2015

In our first year of competition, Bellevue DECA members were national champions in International Marketing at the ICDC.  The hope is to build on that success, and develop an even larger team that demonstrates how Bellevue College is a consistent leader in these different areas of study.  It is the belief of the Bellevue College Marketing department and the encompassing Institute for Business & Information Technology that the acquisition and refinement of practical abilities makes the difference in landing jobs and assuming leadership roles in the workplace.

Growing Up - 2016

Already a number of DECA students have had success translating their experiences with the Bellevue DECA team into new opportunities.  The team has tripled in size from the first year to the second and we're hoping to see this trend continue with the 2016/2017 school year.  The case study approach used in competition is shaping the curriculum development at Bellevue College, ensuring that students are learning much needed business management and strategic thinking skills.
